The
history of ATRAN - Aviatrans Cargo Airlines began in 1942, when the company was
originally established as the "Moscow Aviation Enterprise" in order to serve the
requirements of the Aircraft Manufacturers in fast deliveries of engines, aircraft
components and spare parts.
In 1969, the company set up another base Moscow-Domodedovo Airport for operations
of its heavy freighters.
Following the growth of the cargo operations, the company was gradually expanding
its fleet and services. In the mid 80s, the company changed its name and transformed
into the Association "Transport Aviation" operating 29 freighters allover the
entire USSR.
In june 1990, the Goverment of the USSR appointed "Transport Aviation" to
be the first independent airlines in the USSR, allowing the company to separate
from Aeroflot and operate domestic and international air cargo services under
its own brand name AVIATRANS.
In
1993, AVIATRANS was privatized from 100% state owned company to a public limited
liability company.
Since January 1, 1997 the
company has been operating under its new registered trade name
"ATRAN - Aviatrans Cargo Airlines"

In 1995, for successful economic development in the new market environment,
ATRAN got the Birmingham Torch Award established by the American International
Finance and Economic Partnership Institute and the American International Academy
for Leadership in Business and Administration.
In 1998, ATRAN won the prize "Wing of Russia - 97" as the second best All-Cargo
Airlines in Russia.
